Those Bygone Years is the closing theme song for the record-breaking Taiwanese movie, You Are the Apple of My Eye (那些年,我們一起追的女孩) (featured by sinθ here), the directorial debut of Taiwanese author, Giddens Ko (柯景腾). Starring Kai Ko (柯震東) and Michelle Chen (陳妍希), the movie was highly influential in igniting the trend of modern coming of age films in the Chinese film industry and was well received by critics.The romantic youth comedy is based on his semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, and is also reflected in the closing theme song’s lyrics, also penned by Giddens Ko.

With its nostalgic melody and melancholic lyrics of first love slipping away, Those Bygone Years was an instant hit, breaking every notable Youtube viewership record set by a Chinese language video. It remained at the top of the Taiwanese music charts for 64 consecutive of days, breaking all previous records. It was also nominated for Best Original Film Soundtrack at the 48th Golden Horse Awards. Hu Xia, born on 1990, is the winner of Taiwan’s One Million Star in 2010 and is most well known for singing this theme song.
